Glass Sliding Doors

You have just installed glass sliding doors and are wondering the best way to keep them well maintained. Glass sliding doors are an excellent feature in any home and they offer several benefits – they allow more light into any space where they are installed, they last a long time and they can be securely locked. To help you take care of yours here are some simple tips:
• You can vacuum the sill tracks the same way you vacuum floors. If you use your glass doors often you can vacuum the tracks at least once a week, but if you don’t use your glass door vey often a few times a year will do.
• If you want to make sure that your door slides smoothly at all times you can apply a Teflon-based lubricant on the sill tracks a few times a year or as needed. If you don’t have a Teflon-based lubricant sewing machine oil will do.
• The vinyl frames of your glass doors need care if they are to last. When you clean the glass you should wipe the frame down with a damp, soapy cloth, rinse and wipe again. Don’t use an abrasive cleanser as it can damage the vinyl and may end up in the sill tracks and cause the doors to stick.
• Get your installer to come once a year to inspect all glass sliding doors in your home and make sure that they are in working order. They should also look into the locking mechanisms and upgrade them if necessary.
• Glass sliding doors don’t break easily but if you notice a crack you should have your door replaced immediately to avoid any accidents in the home.
Lastly, use a good Cambridge glass door installer like Go Glass – they are experts and deliver high quality doors.
